NetSolve and Functional Electrical Stimulation
|
Electrical nerve and muscle stimulation is used to overcome bad, missing or
lost body functions. In a research project at the Vienna General Hospital
functional electrical stimulation of denervated skeletal muscles is studied.
The aim is to allow paralyzed people to partially regain abilities like
standing up or walking.

The arising mathematical problems in this field requires sophisticated
algorithms to solve systems with >1.5e+6 unknowns, which still take hours on a
conventional PC to be performed. Using NetSolve this calculations can now be
transfered to remote high-tech computers from within the Matlab tool developed
to simulate functional electrical stimulation. Moreover NetSolve now also provides
the ability to perform different simulation settings simultaneously using the task-farming
feature.
