Banded matrices quick question

Hello ppl.
i am trying to solve a system AX=B where a is a banded matrix.Do the solver routines in compaqt from??.

What i mean is ,that a banded matrix of size let's say 10x10 with bandsize 4 can be 1)stored as a 10x10 matrix with zero terms 2)4x10 matrix (nozeros)

Does scalapack accepts the 4x10 matrix to solve the system or it needs the matrix at the full form?
