how to get started

Hello,

I am a c/c++ programmer, I would like to start using lapack for some linear algebra problems.

as far as I understand, I need to install both lapack and clapack. Am I correct?

I have taken a look to the lapack user guide, but I have only found a list of routines for solving problems. I have not found the sintax for each of those routines. Where can I find that?

It seems to me that lapack has a quite steep learning curve. Is there any good tutorial or gentle introduction to get started?

Hi Panecasareccio,

for my own C++ library FLENS I also interface with LAPACK (but recently I also have reimplemented many parts of LAPACK in C++). In my experience it was more convenient to interface with LAPACK directly rather than with CLAPACK. Some of the typical problems/questions first-time users of LAPACK have when coming from C/C++ are addressed in the third chapter of my write up Everything You Always Wanted to Know About FLENS, But Were Afraid to Ask. It is a self contained chapter that is independent of FLENS.
